First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenyon was incorporated in 1891 as a congregation of the United Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church. Proud of our heritage and faithful to God, we remain curious about the ways in which the Holy Spirit is at work in our community, nation, and world--over 130 years after our founding. We are a congregation whose large brick structure rose from the ashes of its predecessor. We continue to be attentive to the cycle of life, death, and resurrection while we worship our Savior Jesus Christ and seek to reflect his love for the world. We joined the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) upon its formation in 1988, and we share in ministry with Kenyon-Wannamingo area ELCA congregations. Throughout our 130+ years as we have met many challenges, we hold fast to the words in Hebrews 13:8: "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever."
